Pho 2000, Ho Chi Minh

While Pho 24 is all over HCM, I just had to find out for myself why the Lonely Planet (guide) recommended that Pho 2000 should be the first place to try pho (save from the fact that former US president Bill Clinton dined here in one of his visits). After a long day walking around the War Remnants Museum, we were ready for some serious dinner!

PHO BO LON
Large Beef Noodle
32,000d

BUN CA - RI CA
Fillet of Fish in Curry Coconut Sauce with Vermicelli
42,000d

I must admit that their beef noodle’s more flavorful (and more pepper-y) vs. Pho 24’s. The fish fillet curry’s definitely something too! My stomach’s never survived curry and coconut until this meal. It also has this interesting nutty texture that I am still lemming for a week after my first spoonful! :)

Pho 2000 (I almost typed my name LOL)

Dream Cones, Ho Chi Minh

When was the last time you had ice cream diner style? I couldn’t remember my last but my “second first” was quite unforgettable. :)

*drool*

I am honestly out of words (very rare) to describe my beautiful Dream Cones experience. :( What I can tell you though is that it’s quite a surprise that I discovered my favorite (really!) gelato in Viet Nam. You get more kicks from your ice cream’s natural flavor since their gelato’s not made with cream but low-fat milk (75% less fat!). The whole diner ambiance won my heart in a snap too! It sure brought out the kid in me, Jayvee, and Juned! ;)

My first triple scoop
Amaretto. Dark Chocolate (Sugar Free). Mint Chocolate.

18,000d per scoop

Jayvee’s Mickey Mouse
40,000d

My second triple scoop
Rorcher. Tiramisu. White Chocolate.

My third triple scoop
After Eight Chocolate Peppermint. Nutella. Trifle.

Ben Thanh Ward, District 1,

Fanny, Ho Chi Minh

Aside from the Ben Thanh Market and the Dong Khoi strip, this is where I can practically lazy around the whole day in Ho Chi Minh:

While I wasn’t really feeling for (more) ice cream (you’ll later find out why), the sight of what Jayvee ordered for everyone to share just made me forget the coffee and milk shake I just ordered everything:

Chocolate Fondue
125,000d

It was super fun to guess what flavor our next spoonful’s going to be as there are off flavors (well at least with the ones we have here in MNL) like guyabano, tamarind, and lime. The classic chocolate, vanilla, and coffee were pretty good too. Very smooth and creamy!

And just because we don’t eat like full kitties (whatever that means), here’s more of what we’ve had that afternoon:

Jayvee’s Blue Lagoon
43,000d

Sasha’s La Campagne
54,000d

My Menthe Choco (mint chocolate) Milk Shake
35,000d

My really strong Irish Coffee
48,000d

My coffee was so strong I sort of twitch every time I sip!

ps. Did the Chocolate Fondue make you drool? Blame Jayvee! He was able to capture it exactly how we saw it! ;)

The Sushi Bar at the Zen Plaza

Not very long after breakfast (read: less than 2hours), the boys and I found ourselves chowing down some Japanese! :D

It was by sheer chance that we found “The Sushi Bar” sitting on the 5th floor of the Zen Plaza. They ordered ahead of me since I was busy browsing over Bourjois at the ground floor. The sashimis in Maguro (68,000d) and Ika (68,000d) were ordered ala carte but were served as a little platter:

Both were delightfully fresh and the ika’s texture was perfect! Another good gun on our table were the Sake Rolls (35,000d):

The guys ordered fatty tuna too but after 30 minutes of waiting, the waitress said they won’t be serving it since it didn’t turn out very good. I wish more of our restaurants in MNL will be like this. It’s sure sucks to hear that your food won’t be served but at least you’re not putting mediocre bites into your mouth. Agree? ;)
